Chianti & Sangiovese-based Blends

Albertans have had an affection for Italian wines since the 1990s, and notably Chianti wines from west of the Apennine Mountains in Tuscany. Sangiovese grapes contribute the majority of the grapes that make Chianti’s wines, other grapes may be added in smaller contributions. When assessing Chianti, we look for the sangiovese grape bringing high levels of acidity and tannin, coupled with flavours of sweet and sour red cherries, plums and dried herbs.
